GALL BLADDER FUNCTION and DISORDERS

"He, who knows how to listen, hears wisdom.
He, who does not know how to listen, hears only noise."
Chinese saying.

The gall bladder stores and concentrates bile produced in the liver until it is ready to release into the duodenum which is the first part of the small intestine.

Bile is a substance necessary for digestion and when it reaches the bladder it is mostly water. In the bladder the bile is concentrated down to pigment, cholesterol and bile salts that aid in the digestion of fats and proteins.

Although the bladder is useful in digestion, it is not absolutely necessary since the liver can secrete bile directly into the duodenum. As a result, the gall bladder can be removed if it becomes a medical necessity without serious harm to the digestive process.

We have a separate web page for gall and kidney stones.

Gall bladder cancer is a rare cancer that forms in the gall bladder. A high percentage of people with a history of gall stones develop cancer of the gall bladder. It is most common in people age 65 and older and affects more women than men. Symptoms are much like that for other bladder diseases and may include intense abdominal pain, indigestion, unintentional weight loss, diminished appetite, fever, nausea or jaundice.

The only known cure for gall bladder cancer is removal of the organ. Because it is so uncommon and its symptoms resemble other common diseases, it is often not discovered until the cancer has spread to other nearby tissues such as the liver, stomach or lymph nodes. In general the prognosis for patients with advanced gall bladder cancer is poor.

Some tumors occurring in bladder tissue may be benign and non cancerous. Examples are transitional cell papilloma and nephrogenic adenoma.

Smoking cigarettes is a risk factor for bladder cancer as well as jobs involving the treatment and manufacturer of rubber, dyes, chemicals and leather. Hair dressers, machinists, metal workers, printers, painters, textile workers and truck drivers may also be at greater risk.

Cystitis is an inflammation of the interior lining of the bladder. It is the most common urinary tract infection in women. Bacteria from the colon can travel up thru the urethra into the bladder and cause an infection. Sexual intercourse can also precipitate cystitis in women. Symptoms can include more frequent urination, blood in the urine and a burning sensation when urinating. Although there is a strong urge to urinate, usually only small amounts are released and the urine may have a strong smell. Fever and soreness in the lower abdomen or back may also occur.

The Urethra is the narrow tube that transports urine from the bladder to be excreted by the body. In men it is about 8 inches long and in women it is only 1 to 2 inches long. That is why women get far more urinary tract infections than men. The path unfriendly bacteria must take to get into the bladder and other parts of the urinary tract is simply much shorter.

Our NATURAL & ALTERNATIVE HEALING RESOURCE DIRECTORY provides information on great products and where to buy them that specifically target many of the conditions that affect "modern man" today.  Drinking Kombucha on a regular basis also may very well be the most important thing you can do to regain and maintain good health.

Preventive measures for urinary tract disorders involve creating a hostile environment for pathogens and purging of toxic materials from the blood stream and organs as the most logical path. So how can a "fermented tea" accomplish this goal?

This ain't yo mama's tea

Kombu. .  what, you might ask.
What is it?

It is an Oriental fermented tea remedy that can be traced back to 400 B.C. where it originated in what is known today as Korea. It is perfectly safe and is used today by 500 million people around the world. Emperors, Czars and even an American President have used the tea. The President in the 1980/s was being treated for Cancer and was having metastases (spreading of cancer cells). A culture was brought in from Japan and incorporated into his treatment. He survived and lived into his nineties.

It wasn't until 1993 that Kombucha was introduced to the American public. Today, over 3,000,000 Americans drink Kombucha on a regular basis.

One might think of Kombucha as a microbiological digestive aid. The tea is the biological equivalent of STP gas treatment, carburetor cleaner and radiator flush all rolled into one. It works at the cellular and molecular level pulling toxins and waste materials out. Glucurinic acid (GA) then binds the material in the liver which is then eliminated via your urine. Material bound by GA cannot be reabsorbed by the intestines or the urinary tract. This detoxification and flushing promotes a healthier bladder, kidneys, liver and pancreas.

The usnic acid produced has antibiotic properties and may also prevent tumors from growing.

Properly fermented tea is also the same pH as the stomach fluids are supposed to be. It therefore helps balance stomach juices so they are not too acidic or too alkaline. This should relieve digestive conditions such as heartburn, nausea, indigestion etc.

Dr. Valentin Kohler in 1961 in a magazine wrote an article "Glucuronic acid gives cancer patients hope. His cancer patients had encouraging results with glucuronic acid increasing their physical resistance to cancer and possibly boosting interferon production. Glucuronic acid is one of the products formed during the Kombucha fermentation process.

Kombucha is a living tea containing friendly bacteria and beneficial yeasts (not to be confused with the Candida variety). It is very beneficial in nourishing intestinal flora that might have been damaged by chemo drugs and radiation. A healthy intestinal tract is necessary for healing to begin. The tea also contains lactic acid and acetic acid which deter the growth of harmful bacteria.

Since the tea aids healthy digestion, the nutrients in food and drink are more readily available for the rest of the body to utilize in performing the body's normal functions, hence more energy.

The fermentation process produces a variety of substances from acetylcholine, which benefits the body's nervous system to choline which normalizes blood pressure and prevents hypertension.

Kombucha sometimes enhances the effectiveness of medications and it is important to keep your health provider informed so dosage can be adjusted accordingly if needed.

Kombucha by itself doesn't cure anything.
It simply nourishes at the cellular level so that your marvelous body can heal itself.

It costs only about $5 a month since you brew the tea yourself. About 1 or 2 hours a month is needed for the brewing and cleanup. It's also simple. If you can bake a Duncan Hines cake then you too can be a Master Brewmeister.
