MS/MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS

"He, who knows how to listen, hears wisdom.
He, who does not know how to listen, hears only noise."
Chinese saying.

MS is a chronic, often disabling disease of the central nervous system. The symptoms in mild cases usually involve numbness of the limbs. In severe cases, paralysis and loss of vision is common. Most people are 20 and 40 years old when diagnosed and the disease is twice as common in women as men.

It is an autoimmune disease in that the body's immune system attacks its own tissue. A fatty substance (myelin) normally coats and protects nerve fibers. In M.S. the myelin becomes swollen and inflamed. Eventually the damaged myelin detaches from the nerve fibers and this interrupts the nerve impulses passing through.

Initially, sensations such as pins and needles is noticed and difficulty walking. Less common early symptoms include tremors, lack of coordination, slurred speech, the sudden onset of paralysis and a decline in the ability to think, reason and remember.

Later, weakness, numbness, pain, loss of vision, loss of balance and bowel and bladder dysfunction can set in. More advanced symptoms are decreased bone density, poor posture and trunk control and pressure sores. Advanced MS can lead to a loss of employment due to inability to walk or drive and depression is common.

Traditional treatment can include Corticosteriods to relieve the inflammation but have serious side effects. Interferon, beta and glatiramer acetate are used to reduce the frequency of flare-ups.

There is no cure for multiple sclerosis, so the focus is on relieving the symptoms and trying to achieve some level of "quality of life" in living with the disease.

Our NATURAL & ALTERNATIVE HEALING RESOURCE DIRECTORY provides information on great products and where to buy them that specifically target many of the conditions that affect "modern man" today.  Drinking Kombucha on a regular basis also may very well be the most important thing you can do to regain and maintain good health.

So what benefits can someone with MS reasonably expect from Kombucha "fermented tea"?

This ain't yo mama's tea

Kombu. .  what, you might ask.
What is it?

It is an Oriental fermented tea remedy that can be traced back to 400 B.C. where it originated in what is known today as Korea. It is perfectly safe and is used today by 500 million people around the world. Emperors, Czars and even an American President have used the tea. The President in the 1980/s was being treated for Cancer and was having metastases (spreading of cancer cells). A culture was brought in from Japan and incorporated into his treatment. He survived and lived into his nineties.

It wasn't until 1993 that Kombucha was introduced to the American public. Today, over 3,000,000 Americans drink Kombucha on a regular basis.

One might think of Kombucha as a microbiological digestive aid. The tea is the biological equivalent of STP gas treatment, carburetor cleaner and radiator flush all rolled into one. It works at the cellular and molecular level pulling toxins and waste materials out. Glucuronic Acid (GA) then binds the material in the liver which is then eliminated via your urine. Material bound by GA cannot be reabsorbed by the intestines or the urinary system. This should be helpful in purging the dead myelin material from your system. This detoxification and flushing promotes a healthier bladder, liver and pancreas.

Kombucha is a living tea containing friendly bacteria and beneficial yeasts (not to be confused with the Candida variety). It is very beneficial in nourishing intestinal flora that might have been damaged by chemo drugs and radiation. A healthy intestinal tract is necessary for healing to begin. The tea also contains lactic acid and acetic acid which deter the growth of harmful bacteria.

Since the tea aids healthy digestion, the nutrients in food and drink are more readily available for the rest of the body to utilize in performing the body's normal functions, hence more energy.

The fermentation process produces a variety of substances from acetylcholine, which benefits the body's nervous system to choline which normalizes blood pressure and prevents hypertension.

Properly fermented tea is also the same pH as the stomach fluids are supposed to be. It therefore helps balance stomach juices so they are not too acidic or too alkaline. This should relieve digestive conditions such as heartburn, nausea, indigestion etc.

The usnic acid produced during the fermentation process has antibiotic properties and may help prevent infections.

Several other important acids are in properly fermented Kombucha which coupled with balanced pH create a hostile environment for pathogens. If pathogens can't thrive and multiply there is less chance of infections.

Kombucha sometimes enhances the effectiveness of medications. If you are on any type of medication keep your health provider informed so dosage can be adjusted accordingly if needed.

A reduction in numbness is reported by many people with MS.

Here is what some Kombucha drinkers say about their Kombucha experience:

Lupe in California was diagnosed with MS in 1992. In 1995 a friend gave her a Kombucha culture. She has been drinking the tea ever since and feels extremely well. She can now stand on her feet for hours at a time, her handwriting has improved tremendously and she can even run a couple of blocks. She now has her entire family drinking Kombucha.

Nancy was diagnosed with MS in 89 and was down to struggling with a walker to get around. Within 10 days after starting on Kombucha she was standing straight up and no longer struggling with the walker. She reports she is now back to cooking and enjoying other simple things she thought she had lost forever.

A Dutch magazine reported the experience of Mrs. H.W. from the Netherlands as follows: She started drinking Kombucha in April of 1989. Apparently the tea detoxified her entire body resulting in more energy and mobility. She even got her drivers license back. In a 1992 letter she stated she was making plans to go skiing again in a few months.

Karen of WI relates the following: I am up to 10 mushrooms now and very excited about the results. My friend with MS has improved 75% since taking it. From bed ridden to day time driving-she's come a long way. I've had a slow, steady weight loss. Hurrah. My 96 year old grandmother overcame pneumonia in just days.

Stan provides tea to a friend who has had MS for 26 years. She has been drinking the tea for about a year and has had steady improvement in her eyesight, her hearing and her mind. She can now speak distinctly and articulately.

Kombucha by itself doesn't cure anything.
It simply nourishes at the cellular level so that your marvelous body can heal itself.

It costs only about $5 a month since you brew the tea yourself. About 1 or 2 hours a month is needed for the brewing and cleanup. It's also simple. If you can bake a Duncan Hines cake then you too can be a Master Brewmeister.
