Municipal water and some well water can contain chemicals that will poison your mushroom (even after thorough boiling). Since 911 even more antibacterial agents are being put in our water supplies to protect us from terrorists. Even bottled spring and drinking water can have harmful additives. Once the friendly bacteria in a Kombucha mushroom have been killed off they will be gone forever. You will end up with a non-productive "vinegar patty" instead of a true Kombucha mushroom.

Warm temperatures and balmy nights provide an ideal climate for Kombucha (pronounced “Kahm-Boo-Cha) mushrooms to really thrive in. The one shown below was grown in only two weeks.

In addition to a mushroom, our starter kit includes all of these items:

Our Starter Kit includes the mushroom and starter tea PLUS muslin cloths, rubber bands, tea bags, strainers (filters), latex gloves and bottle corks. Sometimes we find something we think will help you and put lagniappe in the Kit, pronounced "lan yap" and translates into "a little something extra". We’ll even throw in a mini French lesson on the ORDER page.

At $25 +shipping our KIT is a real bargain because in addition to all of the above we also include  an instructional DVD in our kits. We wanted to get Paul Newman or Robert Redford to be our spokesperson but their fees were too high. Next we thought of Sophia Loren and Elizabeth Taylor but felt they wouldn't be comfortable handling the mushrooms. So I guess you'll have to settle for me. We want everyone to be successful brewmeisters and hopefully the DVD will assist you in brewing the best tasting and most effective tea possible.

There is NO substitute for the fresh Kombucha that you caringly brew yourself at home. We recognize, however, that some have a situation or condition that makes brewing their own fresh Kombucha difficult.

Kombucha Drops

There is a separate Kombucha Drops page which describes the Drops in greater detail. The drops contain concentrated friendly bacteria and yeasts and are believed to be 60% to 80% as effective as the fermented tea. My personal belief is that the drops aid the digestive process which results in increased energy plus an improved immune system. They are convenient and details on how to make your own are included in the 50+ pamphlet. You can take the drops while getting your tea production up to speed and at only $9.75 plus shipping the drops are a real value.  We also have a 16 oz. bottle of VIN Drops for large families or commercial use that is only $29.00 plus shipping.

Freshly Fermented Tea

We don't believe in adding chemical preservatives or pasteurizing our tea with heat and additives to increase shelf life because heat will kill off many of the friendly bacteria and beneficial yeasts. Instead, our tea is usually harvested within 24 hours of shipping. We also include some dried fruit such as mangoes, apricots or cran-raisins to enhance flavor in the warmer months and cinnamon sticks during the winter.

A gallon jug of tea is $16.00 + shipping.   Shipping is by U.P.S. (so a physical shipping address is needed) and will usually arrive in 3 or 4 working days. See Freshly Fermented Tea on the Order Page.  Mushrooms and kits can be added with no additional shipping charge.

We recommend you have a gallon sun tea jug on hand to keep your fermented tea in.  The spigot makes it convenient to draw a glass of Kombucha easily.
